In 2009 candidates should present for examination in accordance with the syllabus, requirements and regulations prescribed in the 2009-2010 Manual of Syllabuses – Speech Syllabuses, published by Australian Music Examinations Board Ltd, available from AMEB State Offices and music retailers.

Combinations of Syllabuses: Teachers and candidates are reminded that no combinations of syllabuses may be presented for examination. This applies to old and new syllabuses, and Teacher and Performer diplomas.

Glossary:  As a result of the 2008 Speech syllabus evaluations, the Federal Board has undertaken to produce a Glossary of Terms found in the Drama and Performance and Voice and Communication syllabuses.  This Glossary will be available as a download from the AMEB Federal Office website from early 2009.

Drama and Performance: Since 2007, a new practical syllabus called Drama and Performance has been offered. The syllabus offers a greater and more diversified choice of material, with the opportunity to combine a number of performance skills in a single examination. The Drama and Performance syllabus was under evaluation in 2008 and the revised syllabus, published in the 2009-2010 Manual of Syllabuses – Speech Syllabuses, countenances a wide variety of feedback from users across Australia, as well as the experience of this syllabus in examination. Only the Drama and Performance syllabus published in the 2009-2010 Manual of Syllabuses – Speech Syllabuses is accepted for examination from 2009.

Speech and Performance Theory: Question 4 Level 2 of the Speech and Performance Theory syllabus now offers Theatre History (Question 4a) and Communication/Skills Theory (Question 4b). Candidates sitting the practical syllabuses of Drama and Performance, Speech in Action and Speech and Drama will be examined on Question 4a. Candidates sitting the practical syllabus of Voice and Communication will be examined on Question 4b.

Voice and Communication:  Since 2007, a new syllabus called Voice and Communication has been offered. The Voice and Communication syllabus is designed to foster an individual’s confidence and skill in communication in both everyday life and the professional sector. The Voice and Communication syllabus was evaluated in 2008 and the revised syllabus, published in the 2009-2010 Manual of Syllabuses – Speech Syllabuses, countenances a wide variety of feedback from users across Australia, as well as the experience of this syllabus in examination. Only the Voice and Communication syllabus published in the 2009-2010 Manual of Syllabuses – Speech Syllabuses is accepted for examination from 2009.

Withdrawal of Speech and Drama – Practical:  Notice is hereby given that the Speech and Drama – Practical (2003-2004) syllabus will be withdrawn at the end of 2009. From 2010, this syllabus can no longer be presented for examination.

Withdrawal of Speech in Action:  Notice is hereby given that the Speech in Action (2003-2004) syllabus will be withdrawn at the end of 2009. From 2010, this syllabus can no longer be presented for examination.
